Bill of Rights, Rights Limiting Procedures and Restrictive Practices

Course Content: Participants will receive a historical overview of the evolution of the concepts of human rights and how our field of developmental disabilities has incorporated these into our services. This has often been a struggle and continues to be a critical obstacle in our ability to ensure quality services. Participants will review restrictive procedures within the residential and in home setting
Course Objectives: After the completion of this course:
• Participants will develop an understanding of individual’ bill of rights and how they apply to our Everyday Lives philosophies.
• Participants understand Self Determination and Freedom of Choice and how to support these practices
• Participants will develop an understanding of rights limiting procedures and restrictive procedures and how they are to be implemented.
• Participants will understand Restrictive Procedure Planning and the implications of restrictive practices
• Participants will also consider their own experience with use of restrictive procedures and understand how to avoid the unauthorized use of such procedures.
