Course Content: Participants will receive a historical overview of the evolution of the concepts of human rights and how our field of developmental disabilities has incorporated these into our services. This has often been a struggle and continues to be a critical obstacle in our ability to ensure quality services. Participants will review restrictive procedures within the residential and in home setting

 

Course  Objectives: After the completion of this course:

 

 

         Participants will develop an understanding of individual’ bill of rights and how they apply to our Everyday Lives philosophies.

         Participants understand Self Determination and Freedom of Choice and how to support these practices

         Participants will develop an understanding of rights limiting procedures and restrictive procedures and how they are to be implemented.

         Participants will understand Restrictive Procedure Planning and the implications of restrictive practices

         Participants will also consider their own experience with use of restrictive procedures and understand how to avoid the unauthorized use of such procedures.
