Course Content: This course discusses the use of ongoing methods of support that prevent or diminish a person’s challenging behaviors, through our understanding of the following. The course can be presented in either a four hour or a seven hour version.
Course Objectives: After the completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
· Understand who the person is though our Person Directed Supports
· Understand how a person can experience an improved quality of life through the Recovery Principles
· Understand how we support a person through the integration of best practices, a shared set of values, philosophies and technologies
· Focus not on “fixing a person” but on building competencies, creating opportunities and offering choices that help each person live a fulfilling life
· Provide viable alternatives and eliminates the need to rely on restrictive, aversive and coercive methods
