Camp Laughalot

Logo for Arc's summer campCamp Laughalot is an integrated summer day camp operated by Arc Human Services, Inc.

The camp primarily serves children with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities between the ages of six and 18 living in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Camp Laughalot provides life-enriching experiences through a planned program of structured activities and supervised recreation. Activities include arts and crafts, drama, sports, swimming, and special events.

The camp experience promotes educational, vocational, daily living skills and social development while boosting the children’s self-esteem.Boy winking and giving okay sign

Camp Laughalot has maintained a ratio of one counselor to every two campers in need of specific therapeutic services and one counselor to every three-to-four children with need of those services. This low ratio allows campers to receive a high degree of individualized attention and support and helps us to ensure their safety.

The Edith L. Trees Charitable Trust has been the camp’s largest benefactor and in recent years has generously paid over 50% of our camp-related expenditures. That has enabled Arc Human Services to successfully increase the number of children served. It has grown from a two-week camp serving fewer than 20 children in 1999, to a seven week camp, offered in two sites simultaneously, serving over 140 children in 2009.

Other donors include: The United Way, The Buncher Family Foundation, The FISA Foundation, Zee Medical/McKesson Foundation, Representative Tim Solobay, Senator J. Barry Stout.

Arc Human Services supplements these outside contributions with revenue generated through special fund-raising drives throughout the year.

Boy winking and giving okay signDue largely to the generous support of these donors, we are able to provide an extremely high-quality summer program at a very low cost to our community members.

We strive to serve more children every year. If you are interesting in helping us, please consider donating on-line or visit our foundation’s web site to learn more about ways to give.
